• It is the most effective method of dislodging and forcing an object out of airway of a responsive adult/child.
  • It aims to create an artificial cough by forcing residual air out of the lungs thereby expelling the object.
  • Should perform this method on any responsive child or adult with severe airway obstruction until the object expelled out or the person becomes unresponsive.
  • If the person is pregnant or morbidly obese do a chest thrust instead of abdominal thrust.
  • If he/she becomes unresponsive, give 30 compressions and open the airway and look into the mouth.
  • Attempt to remove the foreign body only if you can see it.
  • Attempt give 2 rescue breaths
  • If both breaths fail to produce a visible chest rise continue chest compression.
